Homey App Support Engineer (8 hours per week) @ Drenso
Do you enjoy smart home, technology, helping people, and tracking down the cause of unclear issues? As a Homey App Support Engineer, you help users around the world with technical questions about Homey apps developed by Drenso. Homey is a smart home platform that can run on dedicated hardware, such as the Homey Pro, on your own self-hosted server, or in the cloud. Through Homey, you can control devices from all kinds of brands, such as Miele, Shelly, and Eglo. Homey supports a wide range of technologies, from Matter, Z-Wave, and Zigbee to local and cloud APIs.
This role is ideal for HBO (higher vocational) or WO (university) students who are looking for a technical part-time job with easy alignment, room to grow, and a personal contribution.
Key information
- Hours: 8 hours per week on average, schedule by agreement
- Rate: €18–21 per hour, gross, depending on experience
- Location: Enschede, mainly on-site, remote by agreement
- Duration: one year, extension possible
- Start date: by agreement
What you will do
- You will answer and analyse support tickets for Homey apps.
- You will keep track of frequently requested new features and device support.
- You will test devices to reproduce issues.
- You will keep the internal wiki up to date with common issues and solutions.
- You will help automate recurring tasks using local AI, for example by defining rules, testing output, and improving processes.
- Depending on your interest, you will develop simple extensions for existing apps, such as new features or device support, under the guidance of experienced developers.
We are working on automating the first interactions with users using local AI: checking whether all required information is present, ruling out common issues, and categorizing requests. You help shape this process further. This means you spend less time on repetitive tasks and more time on interesting analysis.
What we are looking for
- You are interested in technology and are willing to learn how to work with our ticketing system.
- You have written proficiency in English. Dutch is a plus.
- You work independently, accurately, and in a structured way.
- You think in a problem-solving way and are eager to learn.
- Being able to read and understand JavaScript and TypeScript code at a basic level is a plus.
- An affinity for IoT and knowledge of communication protocols, such as Z-Wave, Zigbee, BLE, Matter, and 433 MHz, as well as local and cloud APIs, is a plus. You do not need experience with all (or even any of) these technologies. Curiosity and willingness to learn are more important.
What we offer
- Work directly with experienced developers.
- Gain experience with IoT, APIs, automation and AI.
- See your support help customers worldwide.
- Opportunity to grow into development work.
- A one-year contract for an average of 8 hours per week, with the possibility of extension.
- Flexible working hours, arranged by agreement and preferably spread across the week, for example two half-days of 4 hours. During busy periods, such as exam weeks, it is possible to deviate from the agreed weekly hours; this can be made up at a later time. You are not expected to be available outside the agreed working hours.
- A gross hourly rate of €18–21, depending on experience.
- The maximum tax-free travel expense reimbursement, currently €0.25 per km.
- After one year, we will review the role together and, if appropriate, determine a new hourly rate.
- You will work mainly from our office in Enschede, so you can test with devices on site. Partial remote work is possible by agreement.
- You receive paid annual leave equal to 4 times your average weekly hours per year. For 8 hours per week, this means 32 hours per year.
- The contract starts with a one-month probationary period.
- You will work in a small team with short lines to the developers.
